Considered by many to be universal symbols of hospitality - the teacup and the teapot have been enduring badges for Girl Scouts and Girl Guides. The much beloved and much earned Hostess Badge, first introduced in 1920 on khaki had it's only name change in 1953 - to Hospitality. The design remained the same throughout it's 60 year career, the only change was in the thread colors sometime after 1938. The design was international as well. Almost 6 million of these badges were produced for GSUSA before it was gracefully retired in 1980.

Australian Hostess badge. Louise St. Germain identified the badge above and wrote: The Australian badges can be a bit confusing because there are all sorts of border colours! :-) Actually you have a very interesting Australian hostess badge there - the "Hostess - Advanced" progressive badge (that's the one with the green background and blue border). At one point, in total there were 4 hostess badges (3 progressives, all with green backgrounds, and a "normal" one with the navy blue background) that could be earned by an Australian guide! |
