Rockwood Manor Park, in Potomac, Maryland was the site of the Girl Scout
National Center from 1939 to 1979. It was willed to the Girl Scouts in 1936 by
Mrs. Carolyn Caughey and was to be used as a character building center.
Located only a few miles from downtown Washington D.C., troops would camp
there and visit the sites of the Nation's Capital as well as attend
conferences and hike the many trails. The site was officially dedicated as the
National Girl Scout Camp in 1952.
Although the site was closed in 1979 the park remains open. Girl Scouts can use the overnight facilities (no cooking allowed, but there are many restaurants nearby), learn about the role of Girl Scouting at Rockwood and the history of the National Centers. No public transportation available, but there is free parking.
