Girl Scout Whistles
Some really old Girl Scout belts still have the hook on them for the Girl Scout whistle!
For reason unknown, some Girl Scout whistles had the trefoil engraved upside-down.
B & R was not the manufacturer of the whistles, but the distributor, according to online sources.
Amazingly this designed remained unchanged for 26 years!
By 1968 - it's last year, the price had only gone up to 25 cents.
Free mini-whistle was the Give-Away Girl Scout Birthday product for 1968
Unfortunately quality control was poor with these whistles. The plastic trefoil insert was glued without care, leaving the trefoil at any angle.
The whistle disappeared from the GS catalogs after 1977, but probably was still available until the new whistle debut in 1982,
Green lanyard added, sold as a set from 1989
1997 was the launch of 6 difference whistles
Didn't last long, gone by the 1999 catalog
